Giardini Naxos

Giardini Naxos: History, Beaches and Sunsets by Boat

Just south of Taormina lies Giardini Naxos, the first Greek colony in Sicily and today a lively seaside town. Its wide bay, golden beaches and warm sunsets make it a favourite stop on any boat tour.

A bay full of history

Founded in 734 BC, ancient Naxos left traces you can still visit at the archaeological park on Capo Schisò. From the sea you sail over what was once one of the most important harbours of the Mediterranean.

Beaches and clear water

The long shoreline alternates sand and pebbles, with shallow water perfect for families. Anchoring offshore for a swim is one of the simple pleasures of the bay.

Sunsets to remember

As the sun drops behind Etna, the whole bay turns pink and gold. A sunset cruise from Giardini Naxos is the perfect way to close a day on the Ionian coast.
